There are two main explanatory factors for this, one is genetics the other is adaptation.
$The first factor, your genetic makeup, reflects the fact that to a certain extent your level of positive emotion is genetically inherited.
We continually adapt to improving circumstances to inevitable return to a point of relative neutrality. The more we accumulate or accomplish the more we expect of ourselves. We keep running on the treadmill and getting nowhere
